As mentioned, I want to run other things off the generator and do not want to overload one winding while completely ignoring the other. I have 8000 starting watts and 5550 running watts, so half of my generator should run the camper plug just fine. My 16-year old generator has a wiring diagram so that I can then tell which one of the two 120V receptacles I want to use to balance the load on the generator. DISCLAIMER: I am not an electrician., but I am a decent handyman who like to confirm things with the power OFF!. All this should be possible with the generator NOT Running. My wiring diagram shows the two duplex receptacles coming from different windings so one should have continuity and the other should not. I am guessing at this part, but I believe we could do that same continuity check with the adapter plugged in to the L13-30R and test continuity from the TT-30R hot to the 5R20R hot (household receptacle) to ascertain whether they are powered by the same side of the generator. It occurred to me that if we were to do a continuity check through this adapter, we should be able to determine that the ground is ground, the neutral the neutral and then see which of the prongs on the adapter is being used to supply power to the "hot" side of the receptacle (and which blade is dead-headed). That leaves the two prongs adjacent to the ground as hot legs and we know that only one of them is being transferred to the receptacle side of the adapter. However, I have found that the L-shaped prong on the 4-blade side is the ground and the prong directly opposite is the neutral. ![]() ![]() Your question makes me think your reason may be the same. I want to run other things off the generator and do not want to overload one winding while completely ignoring the other. A: I am curious about the same issue and having trouble finding the answer in print.
